After playing the Laskey Alessi 67 Solo for a little over a month, I can honestly say that this is the most comfortable mouthpiece I have ever played.
Coming from the Griego Ian Bousfield O3, which I still consider to be an excellent mouthpiece, I wasn’t necessarily expecting such a significant change. The Bousfield served me very well, but the Alessi 67 Solo has taken things to another level.
The first thing I noticed was projection. I don’t feel like I have to work nearly as hard to get the sound out. The instrument seems to project naturally, while still retaining a huge, rich sound. My flexibility has also improved dramatically. Everything feels smoother and more effortless, particularly when moving through registers and across larger intervals.
But probably the biggest difference for me has been the size and character of my sound. My sound has become noticeably bigger, broader and more resonant without feeling forced. I’ve actually had several colleagues comment independently on how much my sound has changed. One of the best descriptions I’ve received was simply that my sound has become “PHAT.” 😂 And honestly, I completely agree.
Getting this mouthpiece wasn’t necessarily straightforward for me either. Being based in South Africa, access to specialised equipment can be quite limited, and getting hold of something as specific as the Alessi 67 Solo takes some planning. I had to make a plan to get it here, but after playing it, I can confidently say that I do not regret it for a second.
I’ve only been playing it for just over a month, so I’m still discovering what it can do. That might actually be the most exciting part. Already, I feel more comfortable than I ever have on a mouthpiece, and I feel like I’m getting more from the instrument without having to fight the equipment.
The Laskey Alessi 67 Solo has given me more projection, easier flexibility, a larger sound and, most importantly, a level of comfort that I haven’t experienced with any other mouthpiece I’ve played.
For me, it has been a serious game changer.
I just purchased an Alessi 60 Symphony- I’m switching from a Denis Wick 5BL that I’ve been on for two decades. The orchestra I’m part of for the past few years performs a lot of heavy rep and I’ve become increasingly convinced that I needed to move to a larger mouthpiece. I move a lot of air and I’ve been feeling like the Wick is backing up on me and it has been increasingly difficult to keep from sounding overly bright and edgy at higher dynamics. I studied with Joe in high school and have followed him ever since - his sound concept has consistently resonated with me more than any other player. I watched his review of his new Laskey line on YouTube and thought this might be a good place to start.
I have the very good fortune of living somewhat close to Hickey’s Music Center in Ithaca, NY where you can still walk in the door and try out every kind of horn and mouthpiece imaginable so I headed down there last week to try mouthpieces. I had the Laskey as well as several comparable mouthpieces from various other high quality manufacturers. The Laskey won out during my testing at Hickeys due to the overall consistent and pleasing sound it allowed me to produce from top to bottom of my range. It solved the issues with backing up and edge at extreme dynamics- though I’m well aware that I’m just starting out on the journey with this new mouthpiece.
Monday evening as the Laskey’s first real test at rehearsal in my orchestra. I play principal and for this cycle we’re performing a typically heavy list including The Planets as well as Star Wars Phantom Menace, Close Encounters and Star Trek. WOW - the Laskey Alessi 60 Symphony was a total game- changer on this first outing! This mouthpiece took everything I gave it and allowed me to play at full dynamics without any unwanted edge and with a massive, ringing sound. Where I had previously gotten “the hand” I did not this time as my sound blended better yet I was playing considerably louder too. I’m also appreciating the slightly sharper inner rim edge for crisper articulation while the overall rim contour is still relatively flat (like the Wick) which I prefer.
Needless to say I’m VERY glad that I made this switch. BRAVO Laskey!!!!
Sound is very good, big and deep. Much better than at my previous mouthpiece (denis wick 5bl), I like feeling that it's giving me when I'm playing. It's so easy and comfy to play. Maybe I have to get used to it and it will be good but for this moment I have a little trouble reaching high notes.
Very well-made and consistent mouthpiece. It provides the comfort and sound I need as a principal trombonist in an orchestra. I'm satisfied with this purchase.
I recently bought a new bass trombone to upgrade and it came with a Laskey 90D. I liked it so much that I decided I needed a Laskey for my tenor too and got the Alessi 60SY. They’re both super comfortable and I like the sound. The 60 is a bit bigger than what I was playing before so still adapting to that aspect but like it much better than my old mouthpieces
I chose the 55symph as my first mouthpiece, and have been using it for several years now, and it continues to provide the optimal solution I seek. I am convinced that this mouthpiece, developed in collaboration with Mr. Alessi, is the culmination of Mr. Alessi's and Lasky's accumulated skills over many years. It is a perfect match for the trombone I play now, so I look forward to playing it every day! I have enjoyed a happy youth thanks to Lasky and his friends. I can't thank them enough!

A borderline perfect mouthpiece. Beautiful craftsmanship, great tone/intonation, and a nice response in all ranges of the horn. The most noticeable aspect was the clarity of articulation. I’ve definitely found “the one!”
As I approached the end of my career, it was a relief to find mouthpieces adapted to the changes in my musculature, allowing me to practice and perform with confidence and without excessive fatigue. The Lasdkey 67 "Solo" and "Symphony" mouthpieces perfectly meet my needs. I can imagine, however, that these two versions with smaller rim sizes would suit a much wider range of trombonists. What I appreciate the most about these mouthpieces is their exceptional playing comfort, smooth airflow, consistent tone across all registers, and their beautiful gold or silver finish. Congratulations to your team, and a special thanks to Joe Alessi for his insightful contribution to this ambitious project.
It is amazing, initially I was looking for something different but I've found something better.
The Joseph Alessi Laskey 60D Solo mouthpiece have helped me these couple of days to play with a higher quality of sound and articulation, is very easy to play and gentle on the lips. All partials feel closer and easier to reach and the feedback that the mouthpiece gives is very clear.
I'll be purchasing more soon here in Costa Rica and tell all my colleagues to try Laskey at least once in their lives, it is a product that everyone must have in their cases.
Not normal. What a sound! My Adams Sterling Silver trombone sounds complete different in a positiv way. I really did not aspect that it would make that difference.
This is one of the most comfortable mouthpieces I’ve played on. My endurance with this has never felt better and the response is amazing. Definitely worth the price.
It’s truly the best mouthpiece I’ve ever used. I switched from a classic 59MD and even then the 59MD was amazing. I truly love both mouthpieces, but the Alessi is my favorite on my Eastman trombone

When I test for first time in stand of a Badabrass Festival in Badajoz City, the Solo Alessi, mouthpieces, the first sensation was the comfortable rim and easy flexibility and good first attacks. After in diary work, I love it more day by day! is ideal for 1st Trombone or soloing and chamber music both cups help me focus the sound without losing clarity of articulation. I already bought a Shires Alessi Q30 trombone one year ago.
Recently I had the chance to test the new Laskey Alessi 60 SO in silver finish and I was excited about the rich sound and easy playing through all registers with a really comfortable feeling of the rim and a good and clearly articulation! So I bought it and asked a galvanic manufacture for a gold finish last week.
Today I got my mouthpiece back with perfect gold finish in 6µ and after playing the whole afternoon I am really thrilled about that mouthpiece in combination with my Shires Alessi trombone! Unfortunately my Conn 88H with the DW 4BL will get dusty in the future cause I find my perfect equipment with this amazing mouthpiece!
I had tried going back to my Bach 5G after many years on the roomy Schilke 51D, but it felt too confining. However, the 55 Symphony works fine, a nice complement to the sound of my vintage Holton 156 Jay Friedman model. A.I. said it would sound good, and it does.
Great sound and ease in the upper range for sustained excerpts like Rhenish while also having power for Zarathushtra. Additionally, low range into the pedal register was quite comfortable with great response, which was a pleasant surprise.
The mouthpiece is very comfortable and allowed me to reach new ranges and qualities I wasn't able to make with my previous mouthpieces. It is very easy to play and expand into. Used for 6 months now, and it has shown some ware due to constant usage and slotting into the lead pipe.
I'm still getting used to it. I feel enough potential with it, though, that I plan to hold onto it because I'm pretty confident that, with some more playing time, it will become an awesome tool and serve me well in many situations. It's a beautiful mouthpiece.
I’ve been looking for a mouthpiece in this rim size, and while the previous mouthpieces I’ve used are great, the Laskey 60S has the qualities I’ve been looking for: breadth and core, projection and presence, and a consistent tone with the ability to color and shade when needed. My playing is now a bit more consistent and easier. Thanks!
My overall experience was good. I had to wait several months for delivery, which I was not crazy about. The mouthpiece is flawlessly beautiful and plays as expected.

Excellente pour jouer en orchestre symphonique et pour jouer des solos ou pièces classiques mais je ne l’utiliserai pas pour des solos jazz il faudrait un autre modèle car le timbre sonore 'est une philosophie de jeu différente ce nest que mon point de vue
